Saying goodbye to our founder

Nancy Wurm passed away last week with visitation and funeral this week. Nancy founded our chapter, was president for many years and never stopped watching over all of us. Her red truck and travel trailer got her to many rallies and conventions sometimes with help from Joy, Skye and others. Her small sweet poodle Peaches was always near. At rallies on Sunday mornings Nancy would get out that large electric griddle to make pancakes and goodies for the whole lot of us.

She will be missed.

You can read her obituary and leave words of remembrance here. Donations can be made in her name to RVIng Women Open Road Program.

RVW launching new front page of website January 24th

For those of you that haven’t checked into the RVing Women member area lately, today I read this message from the webmaster, Diane Walker:

Website New Front Page

I am preparing to unveil a simplified, more user friendly front page on the website. Check out the new navigation bars once it goes “live” on Tuesday, January 24th.

The main menu will now appear at the top of the page below the pictures with drop down items.

Your personal information access, will now appear on the left hand menu where it will be more visible.

We will continue to tweak website navigation making quicker and simpler links to find what you need.

Dianne Walker

So hopefully this will foster easier access and more frequent use of the RVW website.

I also noted that there are more postings on the classified ads including RVs for sale, work-camping opportunities, and winter rentals.

ENews – RVing Women

For those of you not going to the RVing Women website frequently, I’m trying out RVW’s new way of sharing their new electronic newsletter.  I just clicked the “share” button then selected wordpress (the company that hosts this blog for free) and signed into this blog.  So voila, this is the latest ENews – RVing Women.

As I’ve mentioned in the past, the new RVW website is really quite amazing.  It takes some poking around to find all the goodies.  The key is to sign in then get to the Great Lakers group area.  On the left are links to:

  • Chapter locations
  • Events & Calendar
  • News & Announcements
  • Classified Ads
  • RVing Resources

Then below this are member sections starting with Members – Forum with these areas of discussion:

  • Ask The RVW Board
  • 2012 Convention
  • Introduce Yourself
  • Tips And Technical Questions
  • RVing Lifestyle
  • Activities And Interests
  • Great Places
  • Fitness & Food
  • General Forum

Members – Chat (with those online at that moment)
Members – Documents (like RVW magazine)
Members – Groups (including chapters with events for national and that chapter, on right can open group directory of all members that have logged in as members and indicated they are Great Lakers)

On the right of our group page you will find:

  • calendar – ours and national like driving school and national convention
  • blogs – placeholder if want to do a blog through the website at some point
  • forums – placeholder in case our members want to create our own forum
  • photo gallery – can view and upload photos.  Four are on there right now including one of my motorhome 🙂

In the wide middle column is an update section that shows new members who have joined the Great Lakers chapter, “old” members who have set up their online information, and more.

Have fun exploring!

RVing Women magazine archives and sewer fittings

A reader of this blog asked how she could access the article on solar panels in RVing Women‘s November/December 2010 issue of the magazine I had referenced quite awhile ago.  For those of you who don’t know, anyone can download and read past issues by clicking here.  However, you do need to be a current member to read the current issue.

If any Great Lakers are going to Camping World in Belleview, Michigan, tomorrow (Friday August 26), I plan to be there late morning and hope to see you!  I have the exciting purchase planned of a Terminator Cap.  I didn’t even know what it was called until I just looked it up under sewer fittings.  My new Blueline system fits and worked great in Grand Marais, but the terminator cap has one piece broken and the strap has deteriorated.  Based on Mickey’s recommendation, I’m also going to buy a Blueline Clear Hose Adapter.  This will let me see when the dumping is finished.  Can hardly wait.

And after I buy these, I guess I’ll have lunch :-).  RV life is just way, way too much fun.

Changes to RVing Women website

A heads up that there are changes to the RVing Women website.  I was not able to log in the old way (z0e and zoe) so I called the main office (888-557-8464) to get new log-in information.  It’s going to take some getting used to, but the new website is going to be very powerful and comprehensive.

Note that I’ll be moving this Great Lakers blog over to one through RVing Women very soon.  Shirley and at least one other person (who likes and is familiar with either Mac or PC computers) will need to learn how to post to this blog.  So volunteers are needed and please contact Shirley.

I’ll be pulling back a little so that I have more time for my writing, photography, and some new part-time work.  If you are interested, you can follow my upcoming August adventures circling Lake Superior in my motorhome with my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Henry Boy at circlingthelakes.com. I plan to circle one Great Lake a year for the next five years so I set up a blog to chronicle my travels for a future book.  I’ve done Great Lakes policy work for 25 years so thought it was about time I really get to enjoy the lakes while also meeting others who love the lakes!  Hopefully I’ll be able to meet up with Great Lakers along the shores of Lake Superior this August, Lake Michigan next year, and so on!
