Save the dates January 25-30, 2012, for a Great Lakers gathering in Frankenmuth, MI, for Zehnder’s Snowfest 2012. We’ll discuss and pick the date at the Box Bar on December 7th. For now, click on these links to the official blog and schedule of events.
If you have a special apple pie recipe, you can enter a contest by sending your favorite recipe by December 31, 2011. You must be an amateur baker and the recipe must call for Pioneer Sugar. The best three pie recipes will receive $500, $200 and $100, plus other awards of $250, $150 and $100 for favorite apple recipes (double crust or crumb topping). Click here at the Michigan Apple Committee for rules and entry form. Sounds like a natural for Joy. I’m not a pie baker, but made a yummy pear tart Friday for my son and his family. Maybe I’ll try it with apples and a crumb topping. There is a $5 fee for each recipe and you can submit up to 20. Click here to see photos of 2011 apple pie recipe winners and here for 2011 apple recipe winners.
In terms of the events, we might want to consider going the day of the apple pie contest and to watch professional and children ice sculpting with door prizes all day (Weds. Jan. 25) or watch ice carving and enjoy a chicken luncheon in Zehnder’s listening to Dueling Pianos (Thursday Jan. 26). Check out the schedule to see what sounds good and we’ll decide at the Box Bar. Who knows, maybe some of us can even splurge on an overnight and go for two days!

I can attend all days except Thursday. Tommie
I can attend any day but Thursday. Tommie
Oh darn. Yesterday at the Box Bar luncheon Great Lakers picked Thursday due to the activities on that day. Anyway you can rearrange things? Karen
